Grass Cutting There are so many books, articles in papers, tv programs, Internet web sites, http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/id-1840.html http://www.davidcheethamgardens.co.uk/html/advice/mowingalawn.htm http://www.allaboutlawns.com/lawn-mowing-mowers/how-high-should-i-cut-the-grass.php http://www.carryongardening.org.uk/page01_6_2.asp etc, devoted to lawn care, that I may possibly have been still in a job today, if my supervisor JB had spent a few minutes perusing them, instead of devoting his free time trying to solve with fanatical obsession, the "Guardian Crossword". When I began working with the Carms team in Nov 2005, I was surprised to see how low they were cutting the grass, at a time of year when the cutting height should be highered. I kept quiet. In early December 2005, we cut Gower View, Gorseinon. This was a site I had cut regularly the previous 4 years as it was on the Swansea Rota (The site got transfered with me). I was strimming that day, and when I went around to the rear of the flats (the communal lawns), I was shocked to see the damage. The lawns are sloping and they were wet.the mowers were turning the lawns into a paddy field, total mud. I then walked back to the van ( JB was strimming near it) told JB I had run out of petrol and could he cut the lawn. He then went and happily strimmed the borders of the paddy field! I said nothing. But a few days later, I left in his van a book I had bought, when I began my employment with FHA, "The Lawn Expert" by Dr.D.G.Hessayon also the author of "Flowering Shrubs", a book bought for us by FHA on the recomendation of Mr Blackmore, who had been hired to tutor us on shrub horticulture. The book stayed in his van all winter.Spring of 2006, it was obvious, that JB had not openened it even out of curiosity.I retrieved it with dismay and dissapointment. What are effects of cutting low or strimming very low?
