Swansea Team Rota
Sorry Kev, you picked the worst time for me to have a bash at suggesting improvements to the Sites Rota. :-Holidays, etc etc..
It is now 11pm Thur, and am inspired by my cider, may have some time tomorrow, and I will then try and have this ready.
Here Goes.
The Rota was inherited from SF who as we all know was not exactly the most industrious of workers!
If I’d had more time I would have created images to show our work process and how it is inefficient.
I will have to use words, which is not my strongest point!
Imagine you are a company in Swansea that sells say, bleach.
You have to deliver 100 galls to Llanelli and 50 galls to Neath.
So, what we do, is send two vans to Llanelli, take 70 galls out of van 1, and 30 galls out of van 2, each van has to do the respective paperwork, then we go to Neath and van 1 unloads 30 galls and van 2 takes out 20 galls and then each van has to do the paperwork. (ie we have to unload and load the mowers etc)
The reason it appears, we do not send the two vans separately, is that the effort of unloading 100 galls from 1 van would be to exhausting. I believe that the time saved in travelling, means we could have a 10 minute break, after 50 galls were unloaded, and still be ahead of schedule.
So unless a job takes more than a day ie two journeys, it does not make sense to send two vans.!!!
I have not considered doing a separate rota, with D Jones and cleaning, ‘cos I do not believe it works, highly inefficient and so unprofessional having a muddy cleaner!
Sites GM only. To split these between two vans, we have to differentiate between what we consider 3man sites and 2 man sites. Below I have done this, but only in practise we will find if some 3 man sites are 2 man and vice versa. I have based sites by mowing time, which is the only constant we have.
Staff hols and sickness are always a problem, possibly Carms could help out with the Loughor or Ystalyfera/Pontardawe sites and we could reciprocate with a couple of the sites just over the border for them when this occurs.
For the 3 man van, (mine unfortunately) it should comprise of myself, Wayne ‘cos he is the best at strimming, important, owing to these sites being the largest, and Jeff or Kev Rees.
I have tried to arrange the first sites in the morning for your van, to be in the centre of Swansea so if you have to go to the office, your co-worker can be dropped off to service the site.
Sorry again, it is a bit rough and maybe a bit unbalanced, but the timings I did last June, are packed away in one of these countless boxes in my flat, but the main thing is that work should get easier by splitting the sites, especially for you and me,
a lot less time spent in needless driving.
